Tired out the poochie with a puppy play date with his girlfriend, and then we ransacked the tagged Dahlias, which in all was about fifty of them. Pulled them up and dusted off the mud as best I could by knocking them on the ground. Then we drove over behind the barn, but well away from the ground wasps, and I picked up the wood splitting by axe where we had left off. No photo evidence today because I needed to get my MIL home after she spent her morning supervising the garlic planting for next July. I am slowly coming to terms with the fact 8 need to spend an hour or two in the pile with my chainsaw to shrink down many of the oversized logs. I did do it, but that neatly stacked stuff is up by the wasps and until we have snow, or temps down around 5°C as a high for the day, those little bastards might just make themselves my problem — again. No thank you! I have a big enough issue dealing with all these ticks, that adding a second wasp swarming isn’t on my bingo card for late 2026. I would be happy to never, ever have to deal with that again, but odds aren’t in my favour because we help out around the farm all year long, and wasps are here in Southern Ontario Canada. No escaping them!
Now I’m having my breakfast, and soon I will head into the office to begin the day’s paid labour. It’s all good. I came home and did a tick check, and found a tiny one resting on my hip, so he’s been squished and flushed away. Gross! Makes my skin crawl thinking about bugs like that.
So, it’s November now. I did use the warmth and dryness yesterday to hang all of our exterior Christmas lights. So much more pleasant to do in pants & a t-shirt, instead of during a rainy day, or snow flurries. No numb fingers. No high winds. Smooth sailing all around. I have them hooked up to the timer, but it’s switched to off. I let it run yesterday, but now it can wait until after the eleventh. Then the tree & wreaths will go up inside the house, and the stockings, and musical tree ornament, and we can start playing some themed music too. If we feel up to it by then that is. We don’t have the random American Thanksgiving rush right before Christmas, so we can focus on just the one holiday as the lead up to winter, and entry into the new year. Nice.
What else is there to say… Oh yeah, the Americans have their midterm elections so that’ll dominate the news today, and likely the rest of the week as they tally up any contested votes. Then it’ll be a two year run up for the next president. That seems entirely too long of a process. But I digress.
