Alas, too wet to swing an axe.

Trust me, I tried. My gloves soaked through almost immediately and any mud & grime on the gloves soon became a slick mess on the axe handle and I lost my grip twice. Luckily only on the back swing and not during the follow through. I did however manage to split two very small logs, and moved a few bits and pieces around, but otherwise it was a lost cause. The drizzle was more of a steady rain. What sucks is that I have the van booked in for service on Monday morning, so I can’t go back until either this weekend, or on Tuesday morning. Not a total loss as I did get to a fair bit of splitting this week as my muscles will attest to. I had hoped to do another ninety minute to two hours of axe work today. Now I’m just damp and muddy with very little to show for it. Adding seven bits to my wood pile is hardly photograph worthy in my opinion. Bah!

Well it’s Friday and I need to jog on over to Sephora to get my daughter’s friend a gift card for her birthday. Had hoped to go right from the farm since I was already in Markham. Now that is no longer the case. Do I go back down to Markham retracing my steps or head up to Newmarket? It’s not a shopping spree for myself, it’s for a birthday my daughter is attending next weekend. Maybe I’ll stick with Markham and stop by Home Depot on the way back to look around and see what I can see. Or Canadian Tire might have some new sales on now that it’s the end of the week. See what sort of holiday season inflatables they might have? They have looks of visual impact and can store away in small boxes. I guess I’ll decide once I get in the car and start driving. Also, now hear me out here, if I go to Markville Mall I can have Taco Bell for lunch! Ha! Perfecto.

Not a total loss of the day then. Dog had his walk, we got rained on, I attempted to split wood but the elements made that a dangerous endeavour, and now I can go get snacks and do shopping. Laundry has been done. I can run the dishwasher while out of the house. I did a few hours of leaves this week so I can skip those today because of the rain. I also washed out the fish tank filters this morning because the water looks nasty. I should look and see if I can find a water vacuum for cleaning the rocks on the bottom of the tank. We have this red fluffy build up that’s come out of nowhere. I need to get on top of that sooner rather than later before it kills the last of the fish in the tank.

Also, Hello to China as a whole! You guys seem to be the only ones looking at my posts as of late, so I hope you are doing well over there. It’s a little above seasonal here in Southern Ontario Canada right now, but the temperature looks to be coming down to where it should be over the coming week or so.

This blog has only just surpassed 8,000 views in a single year, so with the last seven or eight weeks left I think if we hit 8,450 by year’s end that will be my best ever! Then the question becomes can I hit 9K, or 10K, or will it settle back down between 3-4,000 views per year? I don’t really have any incentives to bring people back here looking for more. My two books are located here for free, and a fair few people also download my mini portfolio (which is getting old now). Does all this not being AI driven make it more inviting, or do I come across as a luddite because I’m not fond of having tech do the fun stuff I enjoy, such as writing, drawing, and making music or sculpting? I am nearly fifty (getting closer every day!) so perhaps that ages me out of the mainstream. I don’t know. Probably best that I don’t, otherwise I might pander to the audience in hopes of being relevant or popular. I’m just a guy on the internet who writes about wood piles, axe splitting, wood working, kids, family and working from home as a freelancer, who walks his dog at a farm. I’m one of millions. But I thank you all just the same for stopping by to chat with me, even if it is one sided 99.999% of the time. Ha!
